I just finished Steamworld Dig and Steamworld Heist and they're both excellent.Dig took around 4 or 5 hours, it's an exploration game where you dig deeper and deeper underground and haul any minerals you find back to the surface to sell. There are some enemies, but you can largely avoid combat. The story is functional, but basically non-existent. The handful of characters are each written with humor and personality, and the hand-drawn graphics are oozing with charm.
All of their games seem to have that in common.Heist is a little more story-driven, but again, it's nothing that you'll lose sleep over. The main draw is the combat, which is turn-based and very strategic. Think 2D XCom.
This one is way more ambitious than SW Dig, with around half a dozen classes specializing in different styles of play, and a whole arsenal of weapons and items. It took me like 12 or so hours factoring in a small amount of grinding, but not enough to max everyone's levels. There's a New Game+ mode, but I didn't get a chance to touch it yet. After finishing those up, I got their newest game, Steamworld Quest, and am loving it so far. It's a card-based RPG, and again, it's way more ambitious than any of their other games. Not on sale since it just came out, but definitely worth the $25 if you dig their other games.
I'll probably pick up Steamworld Dig 2 in this sale for when I finish that.
Upon pressing A I was greeted with permission needed in regards to basic properties accessing my gamertag, friends list (Irrelevant) activity, stats and rankings, (Why that even matters?) settings and content you share. No links to their terms for you to review but just allow me to accept terms for no apparent reason and no explanation why my data is needed for a SP game. At the end it states (Only Accept If You Trust The Publisher) Now in my decade of gaming never have I been told permission needed to play a game let alone be allowed to save data. I value my data and privacy and only accept terms from game devs I know from their games I've played.
This dev team I don't know and quite frankly will never know and will be watching for games labeled with this devs name.
